شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله
A Risala Concerning Kalima-i Tawhid

Shaykh'ul Islam Muhammad ibni Abd'il Wahhab

شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله Knowing the meaning of La ilaha ilallah1:

Shaykh'ul Islam Muhammad Ibn Abd'il Wahhab, may Allah sanctify his soul and brighten his grave, said:

Know, may Allah mercy upon you, that;
معرفة Marifah (knowledge) of لا إله إلا الله La ilaha illallah is فرض Fardh (obligatory) and it is made Fardh before الصلاة as-Salat (prayer) and الصوم as-Sawm (fasting) to be Fardh (upon the slaves). فيجب Being Wajib (essential, required, mandatory) for the slave to search the meaning of it (i.e., la ilaha illallah) is greater than being وجوب Wajib of the search for Salat and Sawm. تحريم الشرك Being Haraam (prohibited) of the Shirk (associating partners to Allah) and الإيمان بالطاغوت Iman (belief) to the Taghout (one who calls and is pleased to be directed worship to, other than Allah); is greater Haraam than تحريم نكاح establishing Nikah (marriage) with mothers and grandmothers. The greatest level of الإيمان بالله al-Iman billah (believing Allah) is شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله the Shahadah (witnessing) of La ilaha illallah.

Meaning of this (Shahadah) is; the witnessing o the slave that worship solely belongs to Allah completely and neither
نبي a Nabi (Prophet) nor ا لملك a Malak (angel) or not ا لولي a Wali (saint) has share of it. Rather this is حق the Haqq (rigth) of Allah over His slaves. الألوهية al-Uluhiyyah (lordship) in our time is what they call it السر as-Sir (). الإله al-Ilah (Mabud; is the one who is worshiped); in the كلام العرب Kalam (word) of the Arab is the one who is called as الشيخ ash-Shaykh and السيد Sayyid; whom دعى Du'a (prayer) is directed to and يستغاث به whom they are sought help from. When this is known; people will understand that, things that people have Itiqad (creed) concerning شمسان Shamsaan or his likes or to the graves of some amongst the الصحابة Sahabah, it is indeed العبادة Ibadaah (worship) which shall only be directed to Allah (Azza wa Jallah). Whoever has such اعتقد Itiqad (creed) concerning a Nabi amongst الأنبياء al-Anbiya then he is كفر a Kafir and he makes that Nabi an Ilah along with Allah. He will have not witnessed La ilaha illallah.

When it comes to the meaning of
الكفر بالطاغوت Kufr bi't Taghout (rejection of the Taghout): You should make تبرأ Tabarri (keep distance) from those whom had been made (Shirk type of) Itiqad; be it جنى Jinni or mankind or tree or rock or other than these, be a witness of their Kufr (disbelief) and الضلال al-Dalalah (astray). Even if they are your father and brother!..

When it comes to the statement of one who says: I do not worship other than Allah. Along with this, I do not object
السادة Saada (Sayyid, Sayda) and tombs over the graves!.. and likes then كاذب في قول لا إله إلا الله he is a liar in his statement La ilaha illallah. Such person has not يؤمن بالله believed in Allah and has not يكفر بالطاغوت rejected the Taghout.

These are very short words however it necessities a detailed research, to put in great effort to learn; دين الإسلام Din al-Islam (religion of Islam) and things that Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) sent Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and researching statements of العلماء al-Ulama (the scholars) concerning the Ayah:

{فَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِالطَّاغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِنْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَى}

so whosoever refuses to be led by those Tagout (who transgress) and believes in Allah, has surely grasped a strong handle which knows no breaking. (al-Baqarah 2/256)

and it necessitates to put great effort in researching things that Allah and His Rasul taught us, especially things that Rasul (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) taught to
أمته his Ummah (nation of Islam) with regards to التوحيد at-Tawhid (monotheism). Whoever turns from this, Allah will seal his heart and whoever prefers الدنيا ad-Dunya (worldly life) over his الدين ad-Din (religion), Allah will not excuse his الجهالة al-Jahalah (ignorance).

والله أعلم Wallahu Alim (Allah knows the best)!..

1- al-Jawahirul Mudiyya, 33-34; ad-Durarus Saniyya, 2/121-122
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:

إِنَّ النَّاسَ دَخَلُوا فِي دِينِ اللهِ أَفْوَاجًا، وَسَيَخْرُجُونَ مِنْهُ أَفْوَاجًا

"Verily, the people have entered into the religion of Allah in crowds and they will also leave it in crowds." (Ahmad, Musnad)
