TAWHDUL IBDAH (UNIFYING ALLH IN WORSHIP)

Shaykhul Islm Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb Rahimahullh said:

In the name of Allh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May Allh have mercy upon you, know that the Tawhd which Allhu Tal made an obligation upon His servants before He made Salh (the daily prayers) and Sawm (fasting) an obligation, is unifying Allhu Tal in your Ibdah (worship). So do not call upon (make Du/Ibdah) to anyone other than Allhu Tal the One who has no partner. Do not call upon (make Du/Ibdah) to the Nab Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam or other than him! As Allhu Tal said,

And the Masjid (pl. Masjid; places of worship) are only for Allh, so pray (invoke/worship) not unto anyone along with Allh. (al-Jinn 72/18)

And He Tal said,

Say: I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilah is One Ilah. So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord. (al-Kahf 18/110)

And know that the description of the Shirk of the Mushrikn which Raslullh Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam fought against was that they call upon (make Du/Ibdah to) the idols and the Slihn (righteous), such as s Alayhis Salm, his mother, and the angels alongside calling upon Allhu Tal.

They say (regarding what they do), These are our intercessors in the presence of Allhu Tal. while they accept that Allh Subhnahu is an-Nfi (the One who benefits), ad-Drr (the One who harms), and al-Mudabbir (the Governor of all the affairs). Just as Allhu Tal mentions about them in His Tals statement,

Say: Who is it that sustains you (in life) from the sky and from the earth? Or who is it that has power over hearing and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead and the dead from the living? And who is it that rules and regulates all affairs? They will say: Allh. Say: Will you not then show piety (to Him)? (Ynus 10/31)

Once you know this, you will have known that their Du to the Slihn and their attachment to them consists of them saying, We only request Shafah (intercession) from them and that the Nab Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam fought them so they Du to Allhu Tal alone and to make the Dn (religion) solely to Allhu Tal.

Likewise, you will have known that this (making Du/Ibdah solely to Allhu Tal alone) is the Tawhd (unification) that is a greater obligation than Salh (the daily prayers) and Sawm (fasting) and that Allhu Tal will forgive the one who comes before Him on Yawmul Qiymah (the Day of Reckoning) with Tawhd, and that He Tal will not forgive the one who is ignorant of Tawhd even if he is an bid (a great worshipper).

Likewise, you will have known that calling upon (making Du/Ibdah to) other than Allhu Tal is associating partners to Allh which Allh does not forgive the one who commits it, even though the doer seeks nearness to Allhu Tal with it, and that in the sight of Allhu Tal, it is (a) greater (sin) than Zin (fornication/adultery) and killing a soul.

With this, you will also have known another matter. And it is that most of the people do not know this, from among them are (so-called) Ulam (scholars) which are called Ulam in (areas such as) Sadr, Washam, and others.[1]

When they say, We are ones who unify Allhu Tal (the Muwahhidn), we know that nothing benefits or harms but Allhu Tal, and surely the Slihn cannot benefit or harm, you will have known that they do not know except the Tawhd; (which is) the Tawhd of the disbelievers, which is Tawhdur Rubbiyyah (Oneness of the Divine Lordship), and you will have known the greatness of the blessings of Allhu Tal over you.

Especially when you verify that those who turn to Allhu Tal while not knowing Tawhd or while knowing Tawhd but do not perform accordingly are forever in the Nr (Hellfire), even if they are those who worship the most amongst the people. Just as Allhu Tal stated,

Indeed, he who associates others with Allh -Allh has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers. (al-Midah 5/72)

May Allhu Tal send abundant peace and blessings upon our Nab (Prophet) Muhammad, his family, and his companions (mn!)

ANNOTATIONS
 1. This phrase is found in ad-Durarus Saniyyah in the following manner,

And it is that most of the people with the knowledge of this Dn listen to the Ulam in Sadr, Washm and others.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:

إِنَّ النَّاسَ دَخَلُوا فِي دِينِ اللهِ أَفْوَاجًا، وَسَيَخْرُجُونَ مِنْهُ أَفْوَاجًا

"Verily, the people have entered into the religion of Allah in crowds and they will also leave it in crowds." (Ahmad, Musnad)
