Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhab and the Ulama of Najd are not from the Khawaarij
Shaykh Aba Butayn, ad-Durar'us Saniyyah, 1/360-362
1

"Shaykh Aba Butayn (rahimahullahi taala) was asked about the Qadariyyah and their Madhhab, the Mu'tazilah and their Madhhab and the Khawaarij and their Madhhab.

(...)

As for the Khawaarij; they are the ones who revolted against the authority of Ali (radiyallahu anh) and before that they killed Uthmaan (radiyallahu anh). They declared Uthmaan, Ali (radiyallahu anh), Talha (radiyallahu anh), Zubayr (radiyallahu anh), Muawiyyah (radiyallahu anh) and the group of Ali (radiyallahu anh) and Muawiyyah (radiyallahu anh) to be disbelievers whose blood was lawful (to shed)!

The origin of their Madhhab is Ghuluw (extremism), which Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has forbidden from and warned against. They declared anyone who committed a Kabirah (a major sin) to be Kafir, and some of them declared others to be disbeliever due to Saghirah (minor sins). They didnt declare Ali (radiyallahu anh) and his companions due to a sin, but due to (the permission Ali gave for) coming to a Tahkim (judgment, arbitrage) by way of two Hakam (arbitrator) Amr ibnul As (radiyallahu anh) and Abi Musa al-Ashari (radiyallahu anh). They (the Khawaarij) said about this: "La Hukma illallah (the Judgment is for none but Allah)!.."

They made Istidlaal (deduct) with incorrect general evidences (as proof) for their Takfir (declaring others to be disbelievers) due to their sins. Like the statements of Allah Subhanahu:

ومن يعص الله ورسوله فإن له نار جهنم خالدين فيها أبداً

"For any that disobey Allah and His Messenger, for them is Hell; they shall dwell therein for ever." (al-Jinn 72/23);

"But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein. And they shall have a humiliating punishment." (an-Nisa 4/14)

And His statement:

"If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide therein (for ever): And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a dreadful penalty is prepared for him." (an-Nisa 4/93)

And other such similar verses.

And Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah made Ijmaa (consensus) upon that Ashabul Ka'bahir (the People of Major Sins i.e., those who commit major sins) will not remain in Naar (the Fire i.e., Hellfire) for eternity when they die upon Tawhid. Whoever amongst them (i.e., those who commit major sin) entered Naar due to his sin will come out of it, as it was mentioned as Tawatur (mass transmission) in the Ahadith (pl., Hadith) of Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

Moreover, if Zaani (the adulterer), the consumer of Khamr (alcoholic beverages), Qazif (the slanderer), Sariq (the thief) and their likes would be Kuffar (disbelievers) and Murtadin (apostates); then their Hukm (judgment) in Dunya (worldly life) would be the death penalty as Allah has determined for Murtadin. However, since Allah has determined (the punishment of) Jalda (whiplashes) for the adulterer who is not married, the consumer of alcohol, the slanderer, and the removal of the hand of the thief; this indicates that they do not become disbelievers due to these sins like the Khawaarij claim!

The origin of Madhhab is therefore to declare sinners as disbelievers and to declare Ashab (the Companions) of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to be disbelievers, whose blood is made permissible! And they did this in order to come closer to Allah!

When this is clear for you, the Dalalah (the deviation) of many people in this era, in their claim that Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullah) and his followers are Khawaarij, although their Madhhab contradicts the Madhhab of the Khawaarij! will be clear for you.  Because they (Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullah) and his followers) show loyalty to Ashab of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), they have I'tiqad (belief) regarding their Fadhilah (virtue), recognize their virtues, oblige (people) to follow them, make Dua for them, and declare anyone who slanders them or criticizes them to be deviant! (Furthermore) they declare no one to be disbeliever due to a sin and declare no one to be outside (the fold of) Islam due to a sin. However, they declare to be disbeliever the one who associates partners with Allah or approves of Shirk; this one. And the Mushrik is a disbeliever, by way of (based upon) the Kitab (the Quran), the Sunnah and Ijmaa (the agreement of the scholars). So how can they be compared with them (the Khawaarij)?!!

The one who says this is a Muannid (stubborn person) who intends to scare the lay people away (from this Dawah), or he says this as a Jahil (an ignorant person) regarding the Madhhab of the Khawaarij and says this due to Taqlid (blind imitation of others). Even if we esteem that as human, this occurs from them due to fearlessness and courage in the Itlaq (discharging) of Kufr due to ignorance, this is not Jaiz (permissible): that they ascribe to an entire Taifah (group), what they ascribe to them what they say about him, their Shaykh and their scholars after him, this clear command to the fair-minded and when it comes to Mutaassub (the narrow-minded) Muannid, there is no illusion."

Muhammad ibn Abdil Wahhab and the Ulama of Najd are not from the Khawaarij
Shaykh Abdil Latif bin Abdir Rahman bin Hasan, ad-Durar'us Saniyyah, 1/467-469
1

One of the grandsons of Shaykhul Islam Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhab (rahimahullah) also one of the eminent leaders and scholars of the Dawah (call) of the Najd, Shaykh Abdil Latif bin Abdir Rahman bin Hasan (rahimahullah), wrote the following to Abdul Aziz al-Khatib in order to denounce those who attribute themselves to the Dawah of the Shaykh Muhammad (rahimahullah) while going in extremes regarding the declaration of Takfir upon the Muslimin:

"I had seen in the year sixty-four, two deviant men in al-Ahsa who resemble you, who had withdrawn from the Jumuah (Friday Prayer) and the Jamaah (Congregation Prayer). They declared Takfir upon whoever is in that land among the Muslimin. Their Hujjah (proof) are the same quality as your Hujjah and they were saying:

"Ahlul Ahsa (People of the Ahsa) sit with Ibnu Fayruz and also mix with him and his likes who do not declare Takfir upon the Taghout. They do not openly declare Takfir upon his grandfather who had rejected Dawah (call) of the Shaykh Muhammad (bin Abdil Wahhab), he did not accept it (rather) had enmity towards it."

(Further) those two said: "Whoever did not openly declare Takfir upon him then he himself is Kaafir in Allah Taala; he did not declare Takfir upon the Taghout, and whoever sits with him is his like."

They established (their Takfir based) upon the two proposals; the lies and the deviations. They ruled with what is established from the Ahkaam (pl. Hukm; rulings)- upon (occurred) the open Riddah (apostasy) such that they abandoned receiving the Salaam. Their matter was elevated to me (brought into my attention). So I called them, I threatened them and I was harsh to them in speech: So they claim (deem) in the first place that they are upon Aqidah (creed) of the Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhab (rahimahullah). They had Rasaail (pl. Risalah; pamphlets) of Shaykh Muhammad (rahimahullah) with them. So I removed their doubts and confuted their deviations with everything that I had ready (against them) in the gathering.

I informed them the Shaykh was distant from such Itiqaad and the Madhhab (opinion) that he does not declare Takfir upon anyone except for what the Muslimin had made Ijma (consensus) regarding the Takfir of the doer of that which is from the Shirkul Akbar (the Major Shirk) and rejecting Ayaat (pl. Ayah; verses, revelations, miracles) of Allah or His Messengers or rejecting any of them after the Qiyaamul Hujjah (proof had been established upon) and considerably reaching just as the Takfir of; those who worship to the Saalihin (pl. Saalih; righteous), directing Dua/Ibadaah to them along with (directing Dua/Ibadaah) to Allah Taala, treating them as Andaad (pl. Nidd; co-equals) of Allah regarding what He deserves from His creation from the Ibadaah (worship) and the Ilahiyyah (divinity).

This is what Ahlul Ilm wal Imaan (People of the Sacred Knowledge and the Faith), all Taaifah (groups) from Ahlul Madhhahibil Muqallid (People of the Imitated Schools of Thought) had Ijmaa upon. They singled out this matter by explaining it greatly, they mentioned its rules, what necessitate and require the Riddah (apostasy), and they specified Shirk.
Ibnu Hajar singled out this matter in his Kitaab (book) which is entitled as "al-Ilaam bi Qawaatil Islam".

The two Persian men mentioned, had manifested the Tawbah (repentance) and remorse and claimed that the Haqq (truth) manifested to them. Then they truly left for the Saahil (coast). They reverted to the same view. It had reached us from them that they declare Takfir upon the Aimmah (pl. Imam) of the Muslimin due to writing (letters) to the Kings of the Egypt. They even declare Takfir upon whoever mixed with the Mashayikh (pl. Shaykh) of the Muslimin who wrote to the Kings of the Egypt. We seek refuge to Allah Taala from such deviation after (having) the Hidayah (guidance).

Similar things has reached us from you that you engaged matters of same context; none shall speak regarding it except; the Ulamaa (pl. Alim; scholars) who posses expertise and those who sustained with the Fahm (comprehension) from Allah Taala and (have) the Hikmah (wisdom) and Faslul Khitaab (decisive speech).

()

As for declaring the Takfir because of these matters that you deem which cause Takfir of Ahlul Islaam then this is the Madhhab of the deviant Haruriyyah (i.e. Khawaarij) who rebelled against Amirul Muminin (Commander of the Believers) Ali bin Abi Taalib (radiyallahu anh) and those with him among the Sahabah (companions)."

Muhammad ibn Abdil Wahhab and the Ulama of Najd are not from the Khawaarij
Imam Shawkani, al-Badr'ut Tali Mahasin man badal Qarnis Sabi, 2/6

Imam Shawkani, one of the scholars who wrote lament after Shaykhul Islam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab (rahimahullah) died, informed that the claim that the Ulama of Najd was upon the Itiqaad (creed) of the Khawaarij is incorrect:

"I do not think that it is a correct assessment when they claim their Itiqaad is that of the Itiqaad of the Khawaarij. For the Sahib (leader, administrator) of Najd and those who adhere to him act upon that which Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhab (rahimahullah) taught. Thus, he was a Hanbali. Afterwards he learned Hadith in Madina Musharrafa and returned to Najd. Ibnu Taymiyya (rahimahullah), Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullah) and the Mutaahkirrun like  them act upon the Ijtihaad of a Jamaah (of scholars) from the Hanabilah."
Whosoever desires الْعِزَّةَ al-Izzah (honour, power and glory) then to Allah belong all الْعِزَّةَ al-Izzah [and one can get honour, power and glory only by obeying and worshiping Allah (Alone)]. Muhammad ibn Abdil Wahhab and the Ulama of Najd are not from the Khawaarij
Imam Abdur Rahman bin Hasan an-Najdi, ad-Durarus Saniyyah, 11/448-449

Shaykh Abdur Rahman bin Hasan (rahimahullah), mentioned the reason for the Muwahhidin of being accused as "the Khawaarij" and "the Mubtadi (innovator)" as it follows:

فإذا قلنا: لا يعبد إلا الله ولا يدعى إلا هو، ولا يرجى سواه ولا يتوكل إلا عليه، ونحو ذلك من أنواع العبادة التي لا تصلح إلا لله، وأن من توجه بها لغير الله فهو كافر مشرك، قال: ابتدعتم وكفرتم أمة محمد، أنتم خوارج، أنتم مبتدعة

"When we say: "None should be worshiped except Allah Taala, none should be directed Dua (called upon) except Allah Taala, neither Raja (hope) nor Tawakkul (trust) should be placed in anyone except Allah Taala and similar things for all the various types of Ibaadah (worship) which is not meant for anyone except Allah Taala; whoever directs Ibaadah to other than Allah, then he is a Kaafir, a Mushrik" they say: "You are upon Bidah, you have declared Takfir upon the Ummah (nation) of Muhammad, you are Khawaarij, you are Mubtadi."
Whosoever desires الْعِزَّةَ al-Izzah (honour, power and glory) then to Allah belong all الْعِزَّةَ al-Izzah [and one can get honour, power and glory only by obeying and worshiping Allah (Alone)]. Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb and the Ulam of Najd are not from the Khawrij

The sons of Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb and Shaykh Hamad bin Nsir -who is the student of Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb- said in the answer to the question, Do you declare Takfr of everyone on the earth?,

As for declaring Takfr of the entirety of the people of the earth; we seek refuge in Allh from this. Rather, we believe that the Ummah of Muhammad Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam will not come together upon Dallah. Rather, Allh has saved it from this upon the tongue of His Nab Muhammad Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam. A group from amongst it will continue upon the Haqq (truth); they are Mansrn (the helped ones)... Ilkh (to the end of his speech).[1]

The individual who compiled ad-Durarus Saniyyah mentioned these statements by Hamad bin Nsir under the heading The Shaykh Ibnu Abdil Wahhb Negating that He Declares Takfr upon the Masses where his statements which carry a similar meaning are mentioned. It seems that he added this statement of Shaykh Hamad Rahimahullh as an explanation to what the Shaykh said and he also mentioned them in the same chapter.

Again, Hamad bin Atq Rahmatullhi Alayh who is from amongst the Ulam of Najd says,

If Shirk became apparent in a city, prohibitions displayed openly in it, distinguishing signs of the Dn are disrupted in it, then it becomes Bild (cities) of Kufr. The wealth of its people will be taken as Ghanmah (war booty) and their blood becomes Hall (to shed). The people of these cities already increased by displaying speaking ill of Allhu Tal and His Dn. They put/made laws to implement for the subjects that are in opposition to the Kitbullah (Book of Allh; the Qurn) and the Sunnah of His Nab Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam. As you already know, even one of it is sufficient for taking the one who performs it out of the fold of Islm.

This and we say: In it (that place) could be those who are not ruled with Kufr in the Btin (inwards) among the Mustadhaf (oppressed) and their likes. When it comes to the Dhhir (apparent), all praise be to Allh, it is clear. It is sufficient for you, what the Nab Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam did to the Ahl (people of the city) of Makkah even though the Mustadhafn (pl. Mustadhaf) were in it, likewise what his Ashb did to many of those who committed Irtidd (apostasy) from Islm by making their blood, wealth and chastity Hall (permissible to shed and to take). Ilkh...[2]

As seen, the scholars of Najd who know the meaning of the statements of Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb better than us, al-Hzim, and his likes, differ in their explanation of these statements. None of them have stated that in the lands where Kufr is dominant, these lands will not be treated as Drul Harb, neither will they be attacked, nor will its inhabitants be declared Takfr of because the masses utter the Kalima-i Shahdah. On the contrary, they say the opposite. Much more could be said regarding this matter, however, we are content with this much. -as sufficient explanation has been given in our Rislah titled The Ruling of the People.

 2. Ad-Durarus Saniyyah, 9/256-259.
Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah (Rahimahullh) stated,

"The lim (scholar) recognizes the Jhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jhil. The Jhil does not recognize the lim since he has never been an lim." (Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majm'ul Fatw, 13/235)
