KHUTBAH KABAIR (MAJOR SINS)

A Khutbah Regarding Kabair (Major Sins)

Allah Taala states:

If ye (but) eschew the most heinous of the things which ye are forbidden to do, We shall remit your evil deeds, and admit you to a Gate of great honor. (an-Nisa 4/31)

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu anh) that the Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Avoid the seven great destructive sins. The people inquired: O Allah's Messenger! What are they? He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: To join others in worship along with Allah, to practice sorcery, to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause, (according to Islamic law), to eat up Riba (usury), to eat up an orphan's wealth, to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and to accuse, chaste women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good believers. (Bukhari, Hadith no: 2766)

Allah Taala states:

Those who avoid great sins and indecent deeds, save lesser offenses,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, and when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil. (an-Najm 53/32)

It was narrated on the authority of Abdur Rahmah bin  Abi Bakrah from his father (radiyallahu anh) that the Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said thrice:

"Should I inform you out the greatest of the great sins? They said, Yes, O Allah's Messenger! He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: To join others in worship with Allah and to be in-dutiful to one's parents. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) then sat up after he had been reclining (on a pillow) and said: And I warn you against giving a false witness, and he kept on saying that warning till we thought he would not stop. (Bukhari, Hadith no: 2654)
Shaykhul Islam Ibnu Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said:

"All statements that had been said by the Mutaakhirrin (latter ones) differing from the Mutaqaddimin (predecessors) and that had not been previously mentioned by any other, is a mistake. As Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullah) said:

"Refrain from speaking about a matter without an Imam!.." (Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majmaul Fatawa, 21/291)
