Khutbat’ul Hājah (The Sermon of Necessity)

All praise is due to Allāh. We praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allāh from the evil within ourselves and our evil deeds. Whoever Allāh guides, there is no one who can led him astray, and whoever Allāh leads astray, then there is no one who can guide him. I bear witness there is no -true- deity -worthy of worship- except Allāh, He is One and He has no partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Rasūl (Messenger).

“O you who believe! Fear Allāh as He should be feared, and die not except as Muslims.” (Āl-i Imrān 3/102)

“O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allāh through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and beware of severing the ties of kinship. Surely, Allāh is Ever an All-Watcher over you.” (an-Nisā 4/1)

“O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allāh and fear Him, and speak the truth. He will set your deeds right and forgive your sins. And whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger, has truly achieved a great triumph.” (al-Ahzāb 33/70-71)

Ammā Ba’d (to Proceed):

Verily, the most truthful speech is the Kalāmullāh (Speech of Allāh), the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam. The worst of affairs are the newly invented matters. Every newly invented matter is a Bid’ah (religious innovation), and every Bid’ah is a Dalālah (misguidance), and every misguidance is in the Nār (Hellfire).[1]

Footnotes:
 1.  This Du'ā (prayer) which Shaykh’ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullāh accounted as “a knot between the Islāmic system and Īmān” (Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majmū’ul Fatāwā, 14/223) which is known as “Khutbat’ul Hājah (The Sermon of Necessity)” was recited by Rasūlullah Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam during the beginning of his Jumu’ah Khutbah (Friday Sermon). Various portions of this renown Khutbah has been narrated with different wordings in an-Nasā’ī, Hadīth no: 3278; Muslim, Hadīth no: 868; Abū Dāwūd, Hadīth no: 2118; at-Tirmidhī, Hadīth no: 1105, and in other compilations of Hadīth.
Shaykh'ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullāh stated,

"The Ālim (scholar) recognizes the Jāhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jāhil. The Jāhil does not recognize the Ālim since he has never been an Ālim." (Shaykh'ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majmū'ul Fatāwā, 13/235)

Our Da’wah (Call)

Our sole purpose primarily, is to circulate the Aqidah of Tawhid everywhere we are able to reach. This is the call of all the Rasul (messenger) and Nabi (prophet) from Adam (alayhi salam) to the Khatam’ul Anbiya (the last of the prophets) Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), striving against all types of Kufr and Shirk that nullify Tawhid and exposing fake deities and Taaghout which call people to worship them. Allah Ta’ala states the following Ayah in this regards:

“And fight them on until there is no more persecution, and religion becomes Allah's in its entirety.” (al-Baqarah 2/193; al-Anfal 8/39)

In addition, the Aqidah of “al-Wara wa’l Bara” which is one of the most important Rukn (pillar) of Tawhid, the Takfir of the Mushrikin fixed to the Aqidah of “al-Wara wa’l Bara”, accordingly the limits of Imaan and Kufr becoming evident is one of the hallmarks of our Da’wah. The removal of the doubts regarding the matters of Aqidah, especially in the matters of Imaan and Kufr that are innovated by the Dai (caller) of Baatil (falsehood) is also one of our purposes. We aspire to establish the Wasat (medium) Aqidah of Ahl’us Sunna wa’l Ja’maah that is far from Ifrat (taking maters to the extreme) and Tarfit (neglecting its true meaning).

After Tawhid, the most important topic we call to is the Sunnah. Connotation especially to the matters of Aqidah but not limited to it; accepting and practicing every matter of Islam as Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Ashaab counseled and lived, also rejecting every Bid’ah innovated after them. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in a Sahih (authentic) Hadith stated that his Ummah (nation) will be divided into seventy-three sects and that only one of them will be saved. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) named them as Firqa’i Naajiyah (the Saved Group) and described their affair stating:

“(Those who follow) my path and the path of my Ashaab (companions)... ”2

The Ahl’us Sunnah wa’l Ja’maah is the only group that follows this noble path.

No individual or group entered the saved group by merely identifying themselves as Ahl’us Sunnah. The most apparent quality of the Ahl’us Sunnah is submitting to the Salaf’us Salihin (the righteous predecessors) whom are the best of the people and the first three generations (of beginning of the Islam) and staying away from the Bid’ah and Munkar (evil) that was innovated by the Khalaf (later generations). As narrated in the Sahih (of Bukhari) from Imran bin Husayn (radiyallahu anh) Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

“The best of my followers are those living in my generation (i.e. my contemporaries). And then those who will follow the latter. -Imran (radiyallahu anh) added: I do not remember whether he mentioned two or three generations after his generation- There will come after you, people who will bear witness without being asked to do so, and will be treacherous and untrustworthy, and they will vow and never fulfill their vows, and fatness will appear among them."3

After Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Ashaab, the Rabbani Ulama took on the mission of calling to Tawhid and the Sunnah fitting the Hadith:

“The scholars are the successors of the prophets."4

At this point, our goal is to become a bridge between Ilm and the people by conveying the legacy concerning the Ilm (sacred knowledge) of the Rabbani Ulama, which attained the mission of calling to Tawhid and the Sunnah after the prophets. The source of this Ilm reaches Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) through Jibril-i Amin (alayhi salam) to the Lord of the Worlds (Jalla wa Jalaluhu). The Ulama will represent this Ilm until the Day of Qiyamah (Doomdsay). Since Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

"A group of people amongst my followers will remain obedient to Allah's orders and they will not be harmed by anyone who will not help them or who will oppose them, till Allah's Order (the Last Day) comes upon them while they are still on the right path."5

That is why it is also our goal to spread the books of the Ulamaa (pl. Alim; scholars) whom had been stand bearers of the Aqidah of the Ahl’us Sunnah wa’l Jama’ah throughout history and the Ilm that they inherited from Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). In order to reach this goal; we take the Manhaj (methodology of attaining Ilm) of the Salaf’us Salihin whom are praised by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as base for us. We would like to convey the legacy of the A’immah (pl. Imam) of Hadith and Sunnah who had not been affected from Kalaam (theological rhetoric) and philosopy, persistent upon the Aqidah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Ashaab, in short; the scholars among the Firqa-i Najiyaah and “Taifat’ul Mansura (Victorious Group)”.

Our call (Inshallah) will never be calling people to our own views that have no base from the Salaf nor to groups that have been consituted by the Asabiyyah (tribalism/nationalism) of Jaahiliyyah (the prelslaamic days of ignorance).

Tawfiq (success) is lies in Allah Ta’ala...

Muqaddimah (Preface)6

Bismillahirrahmānirrahīm,

O Rabb (Lord) help me (in narrating “40 Hadīth that which Ibnu Taymiyyah Narrated with Isnād”)!

Zayn Abū Muhammad Abd’ir Rahmān Ibn’ul Imād Abū Bakr bin Zurayq al-Hanbalī (Rahimahullāh) informed us in his book more than once that Abu’l Abbās Ahmad bin Abī Bakr bin Ahmad bin Abd’ul Hamīd al-Maqdisī (Rahimahullāh) informed us. We listened from him on Saturday 24th Safar year 797H that he wrote to the three Shaykh; Abū Ishāq al-Harmalī (Rahimahullāh), Abū Muhammad al-Baqarī (Rahimahullāh) and Abu’l Abbās ar-Raslānī (Rahimahullāh) that they said, Hāfidh Abū Abdullāh Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Uthmān adh-Dhahabī (Rahimahullāh) informed us as an absolute permit and they both said, ash-Shaykh al-Imām al-Ālim al-Allamah al-Barī’ (the skilled) al-Awhad’ul Quduwwah (the exemplary one) Hāfidh Abu’l Abbās Ahmad bin Abd’ul Halīm bin Abd’us Salām bin Taymiyyah (Rahimahullāh) informed us. Dhahabī (Rahimahullāh) said, I read to him in (the month) Jamadiy’al Akhir year 721H. He (Rahimahullāh) said,

Hamd (thanks and praise) is due to Allāh Ta’ālā, we praise He Ta’ālā, and we seek His help, His Hidayah (guidance) and His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allāh from the evil within ourselves, and the consequences of our evil deeds. Whomever Allāh guides will never be led astray, and whomever Allāh leads astray will never find guidance.

We bear witness there is no -true- God -deserving to be worshiped- but Allāh; alone without any partners, and we bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger whom Allāh sent with guidance and “the Religion of Truth (Islām)”, that Allah make it prevail over all religion, even though the Mushrikun (idol worshipers/pagans) may detest (it).7 May peace and abundance of greetings of Allāh be upon Muhammad, his household and his Ashāb (companions). (Āmīn!)

The First Hadīth

Imām Zay’nud Dīn Abu’l Abbās Ahmad bin Abd’id Dā’im bin Ni’mah bin Ahmad al-Maqdisī informed (reported to) us, –it was recited to him and I heard from him in the year 677H- Abu’l Faraj Abd’ul Mun’im bin Abd’il Wahhāb bin Sa’d bin Kulayb informed us, it was recited to him, Abu’l Qāsim Ali bin Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Bayān ar-Razzāz informed us, it was recited to him, Abu’l Hasan Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ibrāhīm bin Mukhlad al-Bazzāz informed us, Abū Ali Ismā’īl bin Muhammad bin Ismā’īl as-Saffār informed us, Hasan bin Arafah bin Yazid al-Abdī narrated to us, Abū Bakr bin Ayyāsh narrated to me on the authority of Abū Ishāq as-Sabi’ī on the authority of Bara bin Āzib (Radiyallāhu anh) that he said:

Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) and his Ashāb (companions) came out then we entered Ihram for Hajj. Bara bin Āzib (Radiyallāhu Anh) said, When we came to Makkah, Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said,

“Make your Hajj (to) an Umrah. He said, The people said, O Messenger of Allāh, we have entered Ihram for Hajj, how can we make it an Umrah? He said, upon this Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said: Look at what I command you to do, and do it. He said, the people did not obey (repeated their question) therefore Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) got angry and went away until Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) entered upon Āisha (Radiyallāhu Anha) in extreme anger. Āisha (Radiyallāhu Anha) saw anger in his face, so she said, Who has made you angry? May Allah vex him! Rasūlullāh (Sallalahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said: Why should I not get angry, when I give a command and it is not followed (in obedience)?”

It was narrated by Nasa’ī and Ibnu Mājah from the Hadīth of Abu Bakr bin Ayyāsh.

The Shaykh Rahimahullāh was born in the month of Safar, year 575H, died on Monday 8th Rajab, year 668H.8

The Second Hadith

Ash-Shaykh’ul Musnad Kamāl’ud Dīn Abū Nasr Abd’ul Azīz bin Abd’il Mun’im Ibn’ul Khadr bin Shibl Ibnu Abd’ul Hārithī informed us about the Qirāh (recitation) done upon him, and I listened to him on the day of Jumu’ah (Friday) the sixth of Sha’bān in the year 669 at “Jāmi’ (Mosque) Dimashq”. Hāfidh Abū Muhammad al-Qāsim Ibnu’l Hāfidh Abū’l Qāsim Ali Ibnu’l Hasan bin Hibatillāh Ibnu Asākir informed us about the recitation done upon him in Rabī’u’l Ākhir in the year 695, (he said) Abū’l Fadā’il Nāsir bin Mahmūd bin Ali al-Qudsī as-Sā’igh informed us. Abū’l Qāsim Nasr bin Ahmad bin Muqātil as-Sūsī also informed us, about the recitation upon both of them. They said: Abū’l Hasan Ali bin Ahmad bin Zuhayr al-Mālikī (said): Abū’l Hasan Ali bin Muhammad Ibnu Shujā’ ar-Rab’ī al-Mālikī narrated to us that: Abū Bakr Muhammad bin Abd’ur Rahman bin Ubaydullāh al-Qattān (said:) Khaythamah narrated to us that: Abbās Ibn’ul Walīd narrated to us that: Uqbah bin Alqamah (said:) Sa’īd bin Abd’ul Azīz narrated to us, from Atiyyah bin Qays, from Abdullāh bin Amr (Radiyallahu Anhuma) that he said that Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said:

“Verily I saw the spine of a book stripped from under my pillow, so I looked at it and it was an eminent Nūr (light), it (the light) was to embark upon Shām (Syria). Verily, when the Fitan (trials and tribulations) arise Imān (belief) will be in Shām.”

He (Rahimahullāh) was born in the year 589H and he died in Sha’bān, year 672H.

The Third Hadīth

Imām Taqiy’ud Dīn Abū Muhammad Ismā’īl bin Ibrāhīm bin Abī'l Yusr at-Tannūkhī informed, the recitation upon him –and I listened to it in the year 669, Abū Tāhir Barakāt bin Ibrāhīm al-Khushū’ī informed us, that it was recited upon him, Abū Muhammad Abd’ul Karīm bin Hamza Ibn’ul Khadir as-Sulamī informed us that, Abū’l Husayn Tahir bin Ahmad bin Ali bin Mahmūd al-Mahmūdī al-Ānī informed that Abū’l Fadhl Mansūr bin Nasr bin Abd’ur Rahīm bin bintu’l Kāghidī told us, Abū Amr al-Hasan bin Ali Ibn’ul Hasan al-Attār told us that Ibrāhīm bin Abdullāh bin Umar bin Bakīr Ibn’ul Hārith al-Qaysī told us that, Waki Ibn’ul Jarrāh bin Mulayh ar-Ruwāsī narrated from al-Āmash, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Sa’īd al-Khudrī (Radiyallāhu Anh) that he said: Rasūlullāh (Salallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) stated,

“Nūh (Alayh’is Salām) will be called (to the presence of Allāh Ta’ālā) on Yawm’ul Qiyāmah (the Day of Resurrection), and it will be said to him, ‘Did you convey (the message of Allāh Ta’ālā)?” Nūh (Alayh’is Salām) will say, ‘Yes (I conveyed the message of Allāh Ta’ālā).’ Then the nation of Nūh (Alayh’is Salām) will be called (to the presence of Allāh Ta’ālā) and it will be said to them, “Was it conveyed (Did Nūh convey Allah’s message to you)?” They will say, ‘No warner came to us and no one came to us.’ Then it will be said to Nūh (Alayh’is Salām), ‘Who will give witness for you?’ Nūh (Alayh’is Salām) will say, ‘Muhammad (Salallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) and his Ummah (nation).’ Thus, this is (as it is in the) statement of Allāh Ta’ālā,

“Thus We made of you a Wasat Ummah…” (al-Baqarah 2/143)

He said: (The term used in the Ayah) “الْوَسَطُ al-Wasat (the middle/ moderate)” is “الْعَدْلُ al-Adl (justly balanced).”

He was born in the year 589H and died in Safar year 672H.

The Fourth Hadīth

Al-Faqīh Sayf’ud Dīn Abū Zakariyyā Yahyā bin Abd’ur Rahmān bin Najm bin Abd’ul Wahhāb al-Hanbalī informed us about the recitation upon him and I heard it on the day of Jumu’ah on the 10th of Shawwāl in the year 669H, and Abū Abdullāh Muhammad bin Abd’ul Mun’im Ibn’ul Qawwās, and Mu’ammil bin Muhammad al-Bālisī and Abū Abdullāh Muhammad bin Abū Bakr al-Āmirī in (his book) at-Tarīkh, and Abū’l Abbās Ahmad bin Shaybān, and Abū Bakr bin Muhammad al-Harawi, and Abū Zakariyyā Yahyā bin Abū Mansūr Ibn’us Sayrafī and Abū’l Faraj Abd’ur Rahmān bin Sulaymān al-Baghdādī, and ash-Shams bin az-Zayn, and Kamāl Abd’ur Rahīm, and Ibn’ul Asqalānī, and Zaynab Bint Makkī, and Sitt’ul Arab, the first one said, Ibnu Shaybān, and Zaynab said: Abū Hafs Umar bin Muhammad Ibnu Tabarzadh informed us, al-Bāqūn and Ibnu Shaybān said, Zayd Ibn’ul Hasan al-Kindī informed us, Zada Ibn’us Sayrafī, so he said, and Abū Muhammad Abd’ul Azīz bin Ma’ālī bin Ghunaymah bin Maniyyinā (informed us) that it was recited upon him, they said, al-Qādhī Abū Bakr Muhammad bin Abd’ul Bāqī bin Muhammad bin Abdullāh al-Ansārī informed us, (from) Abū Ishāq Ibrāhīm bin Umar bin Ahmad al-Barmakī informed us, (from) Abū Muhammad Abdullāh bin Ibrāhīm bin Ayyūb bin Māsī informed us, Abū Muslim Ibrāhīm bin Abdullāh bin Muslim al-Kajī narrated to us, Muhammad bin Abdullāh al-Ansārī narrated to us, Humayd narrated to me, from Anas (Radiyallāhu Anh) that ar-Rubay bint’un Nadr, who was his paternal aunt, slapped a Jāriyah (slave girl), so she broke her tooth. (The relatives of ar-Rubay) offered them (the girl’s relatives) to accept the Arsh (compensation that is paid in return of wounds) but they refused. Then they asked for forgiveness, but they refused. Thus, they went to the Nabī (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam), so he ordered them to do Qisās (retaliation). Then her brother Anas Ibn’un Nadr (Radiyallāhu Anh) came and said, “Yā Rasūlullāh! The tooth of ar-Rubay will be broken? No, by the One who has sent you with the Haqq (truth), her tooth will not be broken.” Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, “O Anas! Kitābullāh (orders) Qisās.” Then the tribe was pleased (i.e. relatives of the girl) forgave her. Therefore Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said,

“There are from amongst Ibādullāh (the slaves of Allāh) those who if they take an oath by Allāh, Allāh fulfils it.”

Narrated by Bukhārī from (Muhammad Ibnu Abdullah) al-Ansārī. His birth date is 592H, and he died in the Shawwāl of 672H.

The Fifth Hadīth

Al-Hājj’ul Musnad Abū Muhammad Abū Bakr Ibnu Muhammad bin Abū Bakr bin Abd’il Wāsi’ al-Harawī informed us on the fourth of Rabī’ul Awwal in the year 668 (Hijri), and the mentioned people with their Sanad (chain) up to al-Ansārī, he said, Humayd narrated to me from Anas (Radiyallāhu Anh) that Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said,

“Help your brother, whether he is a Dhālim (oppressor) or he is a Madhlūm (oppressed one)!” Anas said, I said, “Yā Rasūlullāh! I help him when he is a Madhlūm, so how can I help him when he is a Dhālim?” Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, “By preventing him from adh-Dhulm (oppression). Thus this is helping him.”

Al-Bukhārī reported it from Uthmān bin Abī Shayba from Hushaym. Tirmidhī also reported it from Muhammad bin Hātim from al-Ansārī –(with the same Sanad) just as we reported it- and he said, “Hasan Sahīh”. ash-Shaykh Shams’ud Dīn bin Abī Umar informed it to us -and I recited upon him- that Abū’l Yaman al-Kindī informed us. He mentioned his birthdate 594H, and he died in Rajab in the year 673H.

The Sixth Hadīth

Ash-Shaykh’ul Musnad Zayn’ud Dīn Abu’l Abbās al-Mu’ammal bin Muhammad bin Alī İbnu Muhammad bin Alī bin Mansūr Ibn’ul Mu’ammal al-Bālisī reported to us about the recitation upon him, and I listened to it in the year 669H, and he mentioned people with their Sanad up to al-Ansārī, he said, Sulaymān at-Taymī informed me, from Anas bin Mālik (Radiyallāhu Anh) that he said, Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said,

“Whoever lies about me intentionally, then let him occupy his seat in the Nār (fire i.e. Hell-fire).”

Narrated by al-Bukhārī and Muslim with the same meaning from the narration of Abd’ul Azīz bin Suhayb from Anas (Radiyallāhu Anh).

He was born in the year 602H and it is also said on the 3rd, and he died in Rajab in the year 677H.
Shaykh'ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullāh stated,

The Seventh Hadīth

Ash-Shaykh’ul Adl Rashīd’ud Dīn Abū Abdullāh Muhammad bin Abū Bakr Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Sulaymān al-Āmirī reported to us about the recitation upon him, and I  listened to it in the year 669H, and the mentioned people with their Sanad up to al-Ansārī, he said, at-Taymī narrated to me, Anas bin Mālik (Radiyallāhu Anh) narrated to us and he said,

“Two men sneezed in the presence of the Nabī (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) so the Nabī (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) did Shammat (said Yarhamukallāh i.e. may Allāh have mercy upon you!)

Or the Nabī (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said Yarhamukallāh to the first one but did not say Yarhamukallāh to the second one.

Or the Nabī (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said Yarhamukallāh but did not say Yarhamukallāh to the second one.

Thus, it was said, Yā Rasūlullāh! Two men sneezed at your presence and you said Yarhamukallāh to one of them and did not say Yarhamukallāh to the other!?

Or Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) replied to him but not to the other!?”

Thus Rasūlullāh (Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, “This one praised Allāh so I said Yarhamukallāh back to him, and this one did not praise Allāh so I did not say Yarhamukallāh to him.”

Al-Bukhārī narrated it from Muhammad Ibnu Kathīr from Sufyān ath-Thawrī (Hadīth no: 6221), and Muslim narrated it from Muhammad bin Abdullāh bin Numayr from Hafs Ibnu Giyāth (Hadīth no: 2991); both of them narrated from (Sulaymān) at-Taymī.

He died in Dhu’l Hijjah in the year 682H.

For a man to wear one piece of clothing while wrapping himself with it by throwing one of its sides on his shoulder (leaving his other shoulder uncovered) and for him to sit with his legs drawn up while wrapped in one garment (in a manner which will conceal his private parts).
“I entered al-Jannah (paradise), and suddenly, I was at a palace made from gold. So I said, “Who does this palace belong to?” Thereupon, they said, “A youth from amongst Quraysh.” So I thought that I was that youth. So I said: “And who is he?” They said, “‘Umar Ibn’ul Khattāb.”

The Eighteenth Hadīth

(He said:) al-Hāfidh Abū Muhammad al-Qāsim bin Alī Ibn’ul Hasan bin Hibatillāh bin Asākir informed us about the recitation upon him. The merchant and Mawlā (freed-slave) of Ibn’ul Bukhārī, Abu’d Durr Yāqūt bin Abdillāh ar-Rūmī informed us about the recitation upon him. Zaynab Bint Makkī and Ismā’īl Ibn’ul Asqalānī also informed us. All of them said: Abū Muhammad Abdullāh bin Muhammad bin Abdillāh bin Hazār Mard as-Sarīfīnī informed us about the recitation upon him. Abū Tāhir Muhammad bin Abd’ir Rahmān Ibn’ul Abbās al-Mukhlis narrated to us, with dictation in (the month of) Sha’bān, year 393H. (He said:) Abu’l Qāsim Abdullāh bin Muhammad Ibn’ul Baghawī narrated to us, Shaybān bin Farrūkh narrated to us, Mubārak bin Fadhālah narrated to us, al-Hasan narrated to us from Anas Radiyallāhu Anh that he said,

“Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam used to deliver a sermon on the day of Jumu’ah next to a log while he used to recline his back on it. When the people increased, he said, “Construct a Minbar (pulpit) for me which has two steps.” So when he stood up on the Minbar giving the sermon, the log longingly wept for Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam. Anas Radiyallāhu Anh said: “I was present in the Masjid, and the log was longingly weeping as though it was longing for its Wālī. It did not stop weeping until Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam descended (from the Minbar) to it and hugged so it became quiet.”

When al-Hasan Radiyallāhu Anh used to narrate this Hadīth, he used to cry and then say,

“O servants of Allāh! The log would weep while longing for Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam because of its yearning for Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam due to his place in the eyes of Allāh Azza wa Jalla. So you are more deserving of yearning to meet him!”

Shaykh Rahimahullāh was born in the year 587H and died in (the month of) Dhu’l Qa’dah, the year 699H.
Shaykh'ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullāh stated,

“Allāh Azza wa Jalla said: Fasting is for Me and I will reward it. The one who fasts forsakes his desires, food, and drink for My sake. Fasting is a shield, and there are two delights for the one who is fasting: A delight when he breaks his fast and a delight when he meets Allāh Azza wa Jalla. Surely, the smell of the mouth of the one who fasts is more pleasant in the sight of Allāh than the smell of musk.”

The Twenty-First Hadīth

Abū Ishāq Ibrāhīm bin Ismā’īl bin Ibrāhīm bin Yahyā bin Ulwī Ibn’ul Husayn ad-Darjī al-Qurashī informed us about the recitation upon him and I heard it in (the month of) Rajab, year 680H. Abū Ja’far Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Nasr bin Abi’l Fath as-Saydalānī informed us with an Ijāzah (permission from his teachers). Abū Alī al-Hasan bin Ahmad Ibn’ul Hasan al-Haddād informed us. Al-Hāfidh Abū Nu’aym Ahmad bin Abdullāh bin Ahmad bin Ishāq informed us. Abū Muhammad Abdullāh bin Ja’far bin Ahmad bin Fāris informed us. He said: I heard Sufyān bin Uyaynah say: Āsim narrated to us from Zirr.

He said: I came to Safwān bin Assāl al-Murādī Radiyallāhu Anh, so he said to me, “What has brought you?” I said, “I came to seek knowledge.” So he said, “Verily, the Malā’ikah (pl. Malak; angels) lower their wings for the Tālib’ul Ilm (student of knowledge) while being pleased with what he is seeking.” I said, “I am not at ease with –or my heart is not at ease by- wiping over the Khuffayn (leather socks) after defecating and urinating, so did you hear anything from Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam with this regards?” Safwān said,

“Yes. Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam used to order us when we traveled –or when we were travellers- to not remove our Khuff for three days and three nights except from sexual impurity, but not from defecation, urination, or sleep.”

I said, “Did you hear Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam mention guidance [desires/temptations]?” Safwān said,

“Yes! When we were with Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam on a journey, a Bedouin called out to him with a loud, high-pitched voice, saying, “O Muhammad!” So Rasūlullāh gave him a response with a speech similar to the Bedouin’s saying: “Here!” The Bedouin said, “What is your opinion regarding a man who loves a nation but does not catch up with them (in good deeds)?” Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam said, “A man is with the one he loves.” Then he Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam did not stop narrating to us that there is a door -towards the direction of the west, its width is a span of forty year- which Allāh Azza wa Jalla opened for Tawbah (repentance), and it will not be closed until the sun rises from its which its direction of the west. And this is the statement of Allāh Azza wa Jalla in the Āyah:

“The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come no soul will benefit from its faith.” (al-An’ām 6/158)

Shaykh Rahimahullāh was born in the year 599H and died in the month of Safar, the year 671H.
Shaykh'ul Islām Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullāh stated,

The Twenty-Fifth Hadīth

Abu’l Abbās Ahmad bin Shaybān bin Taghlib bin Haydarah ash-Shaybānī informed us about the recitation upon him and I heard it in the year 684H. Abū Hafs Umar bin Muhammad bin Tabarzadh al-Baghdādī informed us about the recitation upon him. Abū Ghālib Ahmad Ibn’ul Hasan bin Ahmad bin Abdillāh Ibn’il Bannā informed us about the recitation upon him while we listened to it. Abū Muhammad al-Hasan bin Alī bin Muhammad Ibn’il Hasan bin Abdillāh al-Jawharī informed us about the recitation upon him in the month of Ramadhān, year 452H. Abū Bakr Ahmad bin Ja’far bin Hamdān bin Mālik al-Qatī’ī informed us about the recitation upon him while I was present and listening. Abū Alī Bishr bin Mūsā bin Sālih al-Asadī narrated to us. Abū Nu’aym narrated to us. Al-A’mash narrated to us from Shaqīq bin Salamah, he said: Abdullah Radiyallāhu Anh said,

“When we used to pray behind the Nabī Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam, we used to say, “As-Salāmu Alāllāhi (Peace be upon Allāh)”, without saying “Ibādillāh (the slaves of Allāh)” “As-Salāmu alā Jibrīla wa Mīkā’īla as-Salāmu alā Fulānin wa Fulānin (Peace be upon Jibrīl and Mīkā’īl, peace be on so-and-so).

So the Nabī Sallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam turned toward us and said,

“Allāh is as-Salām, so if anyone of you prays he should say, “At-Tahiyyātu Lillāhi wa’s Salawātu wa’t Tayyibātu. As-Salāmu Alayka Ayyuhan Nabiyyu wa Rahmatullāhi wa Barakātuhu. As-Salāmu alaynā wa alā Ibādillāh’is Sālihīn. Ashhadu an La Ilaha Illallāh, wa Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasūluh. (All compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allāh. May peace and the mercy and blessings of Allāh be upon you o Nabī (Prophet)! May peace be upon us and upon the Sālih (righteous) servants of Allāh! I bear witness that there is no -true- deity -worthy of worship- except Allāh, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.)”

Recorded by al-Bukhārī. Muslim recorded it from Ibn’ul Muthannā from Ghundur from Shu’ba from Mansūr. Both of them recorded it from Shaqīq.

Shaykh Rahimahullāh was born in the year 599H died in the month of Safar, the year 685H.
