The Religion of All Prophets is One
Shaykhul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullh[1]

As the Nab Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam said in a Sahh Hadth,

Verily, the religion of us, masses of prophets, is one.[2]

Allhu Tal said,

O messengers, eat from the good things, and act righteously. Of whatever you do, I am fully aware. And indeed this, your Ummah (religion), is one Ummah, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. (al-Muminn 23/51-52)

Meaning, your Millah (nation) is one Millah. As they said,

Rather, they say, Indeed, we found our fathers upon an Ummah (religion). (ez-Zuhruf 43/22-23)

Meaning Millah (nation).

Allhu Tal said,

He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Nh, and that which We have revealed to you (O Muhammad), and that which We enjoined upon Ibrhm, Ms, and s - to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Intolerable for the Mushrikn (pl. Mushrik; polytheists), is that to which you call them. (ash-Shr 42/13)

So, the religion of the prophets is one, and it is the religion of Islm. All of them are Muminn (believers) Muslimn, as Allh has explained this more than once in the Qurn. However, some of the prescribed laws change. So a commandment may be prescribed as the law in a certain era because of a certain wisdom and another commandment may be prescribed as the law in another era because of a certain wisdom. This is like the fact that Salh was prescribed to be prayed towards Baytul Maqdis in the beginning of Islm, then this prescribed commandment was abrogated and Allh commanded to pray Salh towards the Kabah. So the Sharah changes while the religion is one. Facing Shm in the prayers was from the religion of Islm in that period. Likewise, the Sabbath for Ms was also from the religion of Islm. Then, when praying towards Baytul Maqdis was abrogated the religion of Islm became the abrogator and changed Salh to being performed towards the Kabah, whoever clings onto the abrogated rulings, instead of the abrogator, is not on the religion of Islm, nor is he from amongst the followers of one of the prophets.

The Sharah of whoever changes the Sharah of the prophets and makes up a Sharah, is invalid. It is also not permissible to be followed, as Allh said,

Is it that they have associate-gods who have prescribed for them a religion that is not sanctioned by Allh? (ash-Shr 42/21)

This is why the Jews and Christians became Kfir. This is because they held onto an abrogated Sharah, whereas, Allh has commanded all of His creation to believe in all of His books, messengers, and Muhammad Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam the seal of the messengers. So, it is incumbent upon all of the creation to follow Muhammad Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam and to follow that which he legislated from the religion, which is what he brought of the Book and the Sunnah. So, whatever he brought from the Book and the Sunnah is the Sharah which is obligatory for the entirety of creation to follow. No one can act outside it. It is the Sharah which the Mujhidn fight for. It is the Book and the Sunnah.

 2. Narrated by Ab Hurayrah Radiyallhu Anh with similar wording in al-Bukhr, Hadth no. 3443; Muslim, Hadth no. 2365.
Shaykhul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah Rahimahullh said,

The lim (scholar) recognizes the Jhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jhil. The Jhil does not recognize the lim since he has never been an lim. (Shaykhul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majmul Fatw, 13/235)
